**Bhubaneswar**: A 38-year-old man has allegedly duped several people here to a tune of Rs 3.5 to 4 crore by promising them better returns on their investments.
The accused has been identified as Bikash Kumar Bhuyan, owner of an event management company called ‘Creative Express’.
The matter came to light when the investors, from whom the accused had taken money, lodged an FIR with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch here on Thursday.
“First, he (Bikash) asks for Rs 10 lakh showing the work order and after a few days he comes and says another Rs 15 lakh needed to get the work order approved. We gave him money as he was returning the money which had strengthened our trust on him,” said Basant Swain, who was cheated by the accused.
The duped investors have also alleged that the accused was winning their trust with the help of his sister (Radhamani Jogania), brother-in-law (Sampad Jogania) and nephew (Abhisek Jogania), who often insist people to invest in their business.
The complainants also demanded stringent action against the four and return of their hard-earned money.
The EOW has registered a case and has started investigation into the case.
Worthwhile to mention, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is presently investigating 44 non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) involved in the multi-million crore chit fund scam in Odisha.
