Bhubaneswar: Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti Minister Tukuni Sahu today inaugurated the two-day national convention on “Empowering Children and Adolescents for Ensuring Rights” at the KIIT Convention Hall here.
“Every child has the right to holistic development. It’s the responsibility of the Government, different organizations and individuals to make available different opportunities for every child to live a life with dignity,” said Sahu in her inaugural speech.
The national convention is being organized in observance of the 9th foundation day of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR).
Since adolescence is considered as a critical transition period in a person’s life and as per Census data, India has approximately 253 million adolescents in comprising slightly more than one-fifth of India’s total population, the OSCPCR is organizing the two-day national consultation in collaboration with UNICEF and the Women and Child Development department of the State government.
A total of 300 participants from across the walks of life which include officials from the government departments at State and district level, representatives from UNICEF Odisha, UNFPA other Civil Society Organizations, representatives from the child rights commission, civil society members and others are taking part in the convention.
