Puri: The district administration today razed the commercial establishments in and around the Emaar Mutt on Sunday. While a major portion of the shops and market complex were demolished earlier, the remaining were evicted today.
“Similarly, the commercial establishments around the Mangu Mutt are being demolished and the shop owners will be compensated as per the State Government’s R&R policy,” Additional Collector, Puri, Binay Dash said.
“So far the eviction process has been carried out smoothly. People have been very cooperative. We have ensured that temples and Mutt shrines remain untouched. The sections rented out for commercial purposes have been demolished,” Dash added.
Few days ago Urban Primary Health Centres. (UPHC) at Dola Devi area was demolished on December 4.
Coming to Mangu Mutt, apart from Mutt’s mandir, ‘Gadi ghara’ and Mahant’s residence rest of the commercial establishments were evicted and demolition process began. Since the eviction was delayed, the demolition process too was subsequently delayed. A hotel, nine shops and a restaurant operate from the unsafe structure.
The eviction and demolition occurred in the presence of Sub-Collector Bhabataran Sahu, Magistrate, DSP, ASP with four platoons of Police force. The district administration was in touch with the Mutt’s mahant and went ahead with today’s demolition, Dash said.
