Eviction For Six Lane Road, Salia Sahi Dwellers Reiterate Rehabilitation Demand

Bhubaneswar: As eviction for a six-lane parallel road in between Jaydev Vihar and Patia Square to ease traffic congestion began on Wednesday, Salia Sahi dwellers took to streets in protest.

The eviction drive was being carried by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Commissionerate Police to facilitate a vacant lane for the emergency vehicles, which get stuck in traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar.

There are plans to build a six-lane road (three-lane each) on either side of the road connecting Jaydev Vihar and Patia square. However, Salia Sahi dwellers came forward in protest of the eviction drive demanding the implementation of the Forest Rights Act and 20×30 square foot residential plot within the City.

In view of this, BMC Commissioner cum BDA Vice-Chairman Prem Chandra Chaudhary informed that open and commercial spaces in the area will be cleaned in the first phase. A rehab colony will be established and the people will be relocated after the matriculation examination concludes.
