Bhubaneswar: Former Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) of Gajapati Dr Jaladhar Mallick was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, in a bribery case that was registered in 2011. Dr Mallick was sentenced to simple imprisonment of 2 years and fined Rs 5,000. In June, 2011, the Vigilance had arrested him while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a Livestock Inspector for his transfer.
The Vigilance had booked him under Sections 13(2), 13(1)(d) and 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs 10,000 from a complainant (Live Stock Inspector) for his transfer from Gaiba Livestock Aid Centre (LAC) to Siali LAC under Kasinagar Block in the district of Gajapati.
On Thursday, Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Dr Mallick in this case. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of 4 months for the offence. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Rabikanta Suna, Ex-Inspector of Vigilance, Berhampur Division, now DSP, Vigilance, Cuttack Division had investigated the case. Surendra Panda, Special PP Vigilance, Berhampur and PK Dora, Additional Special PP Vigilance, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
