Bhubaneswar: Former Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim on Sunday announced that he will launch his new political party, the Odisha Janata Congress (OJC), on April 8 at the Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to the media, Moquim said that the party flag, which he shared on his WhatsApp status on International Women’s Day, has already gone viral on social media. “The colors of the party flag symbolise solidarity, youthfulness, transparency, cleanliness, and the prosperity of Odisha. This reflects the vision and values of our new party, and I hope the people of the state will appreciate it,” he added.
Moquim further stated that the official formation of the party will be announced during a public program, which is expected to see participation from political leaders across various parties and backgrounds.
“When we enter the political arena, our initial focus will be on municipal elections. As the name suggests, the Odisha Janata Congress is a regional party dedicated to the people of Odisha. Using the term ‘Congress’ in the party name will help us connect quickly with voters, given the familiarity of the brand,” he explained.
He also confirmed that the Election Commission has completed the first phase of formalities required for registering the new party. “We are now preparing for the next steps and hope to actively participate in upcoming local elections,” Moquim said.
The launch of Mohammed Moquim’s new party is seen as a significant development in Odisha’s political landscape, with the OJC aiming to attract youth and local leaders seeking an alternative regional platform.
