Bhubaneswar: Former Head Mistress-in-Charge of Sitapadi Project Upper Primary School (PUPS) in Balliguda block of Kandhamal district, Pravati Kumari Devi, has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for misappropriating government funds meant for the construction of a school building.
Devi, who retired from service and had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the IPC, was found guilty by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani.
According to Vigilance officials, Devi had misappropriated government money without executing the construction work of the Sitapadi Project Upper Primary School building.
Along with the four-year RI, the court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000. Following the conviction, she was taken into judicial custody to begin serving her sentence.
Odisha Vigilance has stated that it will now move the competent authority to stop Devi’s pension benefits in accordance with rules governing convicted government servants
