Bhubaneswar: Pabitra Mohan Nayak, former Divisional Manager of the Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO), Angul, was on Wednesday sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a Vigilance court after being convicted in a bribery case.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul, found Nayak guilty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The court also imposed a fine on the convicted officer.

According to the prosecution, Nayak had demanded the bribe from a relative of a lessee in exchange for submitting a favourable report for the continuance of a lease. The lease pertained to a shed earlier allotted at the Mahisapata Industrial Estate in Dhenkanal district.

Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance announced that it will move the competent authority for the stoppage of Nayak’s pension. Nayak had retired from service prior to the conclusion of the trial.

Odisha Vigilance reiterated that it remains committed to pursuing corruption cases to their logical conclusion and taking all consequential actions as per law, including departmental and pension-related measures after conviction.
