Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance today arrested former MLA Anam Naik in connection with a disproportionate assets case. Naik was arrested by the Koraput Division of Vigilance for amassing property to the tune of Rs 3.43 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income, the Vigilance said.
On January 17, the anti-corruption agency sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at Anam’s residence and a hotel in Madanpur Rampur. They also searched a lodge in M Rampur and liquor shop owned by Anam’s wife. They seized land documents in large numbers during the raid.
“In course of search, Naik, was found in possession of assets worth Rs 3.43 crore, including one triple-storied building, one duplex lodge with foreign liquor shop, two market complexes, two single storied buildings and one garage, six plots, one tractor, deposits in different banks amounting over Rs 49 lakhs and more,” the Vigilance said.
“After search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Anam Naik, Ex-MLA was calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 1,54,12,260,” the Vigilance added.
