Bargarh: Special Judge (Vigilance) in Bargarh today convicted retired Revenue Inspector Hemsagar Mahapatra in a bribery case related to the Mo Kudia housing scheme.
According to an official press release, the court sentenced Mahapatra to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine for demanding and accepting bribes from a beneficiary.
Mahapatra, who previously served as the RI of Lakhanpur Revenue Circle under Ambhabona Tehsil in Bargarh district, was charged under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case stemmed from allegations that he demanded illegal gratification to process documents for the construction of an Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) house.
Following Mahapatra’s conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now initiate proceedings to stop his pension, as per government rules for convicted public servants.
