Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Sundargarh on Monday convicted Manasi Sahoo, a Revenue Inspector, in a bribery case and sentenced her to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine for demanding and accepting illegal gratification.
The conviction was pronounced by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, in connection with Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station Case No.10 dated March 27, 2019, registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
According to the prosecution, Manasi Sahoo, who was then posted as Revenue Inspector of Malidihi RI Circle under Rajgangpur Tahasil in Sundargarh district, had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a vendee. The bribe was sought in exchange for submitting a favourable enquiry report in mutation cases for issuance of Record of Rights (RORs) in the vendee’s favour.
At present, Sahoo was serving as a Revenue Inspector at Rourkela Tahasil.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has decided to move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for her dismissal from government service, as per rules applicable after conviction in a corruption case.
