Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack on Wednesday sentenced Gunanidhi Behera, former Revenue Inspector of Petcholla Revenue Circle, Office of the Tahasildar, Mahakalapada, Kendrapara district (retired), to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.
According to an official press release, Behera was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a fire-accident victim in exchange for identifying him before the Tahasildar to release compensation.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack, convicted him and also imposed a fine alongside the prison term. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will approach the competent authority for the stoppage of his pension.
