Bhubaneswar: Bijay Kumar Prusty, a former Ward Attendant at Meramunduli Government Hospital in Dhenkanal, has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for securing his government job using a forged Class-VII mark sheet.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, delivered the verdict on Monday, convicting Prusty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 468, 471, 420, and 120-B of the IPC.

Prusty, who was earlier dismissed from service, had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for fraudulently submitting a fake educational certificate to obtain the post of Ward Attendant in the office of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Dhenkanal.

In addition to the three-year rigorous imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine on the convict.

Odisha Vigilance officials stated that the judgment reinforces the state’s ongoing crackdown on corruption and fraudulent appointments in government services.
