Except Mahanadi Water Levels Receding In All Major Rivers Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As rainfall continues in upstream Mahanadi, the water levels are gradually increasing in the river. However, the levels have begun to recede in all other major rivers across Odisha.

Mahanadi river was flowing at 26.81 metres with the danger level marked at 26.41 metres at Naraj, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena tweeted.

And since not much rainfall has been predicted for Odisha in the coming days, the water level in Baitarani and Brahmani river system has receded. The Subarnarekha and Jalaka rivers have also started to recede.

However, Jajpur district continues to reel under the after-affects of the flood. All the roads to Bari were cut off except one road from Balichandrapur which is now being used for all the movements. As per Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s directive, today, 17 officers have been deputed to Bari with different assignments relating to the rescue operation.

Relief materials, polythene and other essential items are also being sent to Bari for relief purpose. The district administration is keeping close watch over the situation.

In Jharsuguda, backwater of Hirakud dam reservoir has also started to recede. Six villages namely Chikhili, Sukhadoda, Muhudi, Sardha, Semilia and Mahulpali under Lakhanpur block have been affected. 1049 people were evacuated and shifted to six relief centres.

The district administration reported to SRC that crop loss, house damage and other flood or rain-related damages shall be assessed soon. The situation in other parts of the districts is normal.
