Bhubaneswar: Intensifying the crackdown on illicit liquor trade, Odisha Excise personnel along with police raided a unit manufacturing country liquor at Saliashai on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Monday and seized and destroyed a large quantity of hooch.
According to reports, several hundred litres of country liquor were seized along with poach and paddy required to brew local alcohol. The Excise personnel also destroyed the place.
To their surprise, the raiding personnel found that country liquor was brewed and sold in virtually in every house in the locality.
The Excise department has seized over 5,500 litres of country liquor and destroyed more than 100 distilleries brewing them in different areas of the state since the raids began last week. Between August 20 and August 26, the department conducted raids at illegal liquor production units across the state, registering 1869 Excise cases and arresting 1154 individuals.
