Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, the Excise Department sleuths seized brown sugar worth Rs 16 lakh from Saraswatipur village under Bhograi block in Balasore district.

The operation was carried out by sleuths of Jaleswar and Bhogarai Excise Departments, who posed as customers to nab the accused, Vijay Kumar Sahu, red-handed.

Sahu, a resident of Sanategheri village, was selling the contraband in Saraswatipur when he was apprehended. The authorities seized 165 grams of brown sugar, a bike, and Rs 1,070 in cash.

The investigation is ongoing, with both Excise teams working together to unravel the network. The big question now is how such a large quantity of brown sugar made its way from West Bengal into Odisha.
