Bhubaneswar: Excise department officials arrested seven persons, including three from Maharashtra, on Tuesday for allegedly transporting ganja from Gajapati to Mumbai.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ajaya Jagan Berad (25), Amol Muralidhar Rahinj (26), and Vishal Bhausaheb Rahinj (32), all from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. The others are Sajan Nayak (30) from Ludra, Narayan Chandra Nayak (35) from Dengasargi, Pitara Nayak (28) from Ludru, and Tarun Nayak (21) from Liligada.
Acting on a tip-off, excise officials raided a spot in Sinhala near Berhampur, where they found ganja being loaded from two cars into another vehicle with a Maharashtra registration plate. The suspects were arrested on the spot.
During questioning, the accused admitted that the ganja had been transported from Gajapati to Berhampur in two cars and then to Mumbai.
Excise officials seized three cars, including one with a Maharashtra license plate, nine mobile phones, and approximately 160 kg of ganja from the accused.
