Bhubaneswar: There has been a marked rise of 92.30% in the seizure of Illicitly Distilled (ID) Liquor in the month of April this year as compared to the corresponding period last year.
As much as 1,02706 litres of ID Liquor was seized in April this year as compared to the seizure of 53387.4 litres during the corresponding period last year.
This was revealed during a review meeting for the month of April chaired by Excise Commissioner Ashish Kumar Singh today.
Similarly, there has been a 94.80% rise in the seizure of Country Liquor in April this year as compared to the corresponding period last year.
The Excise department seized 1108 litres of Country Liquor in April this year as compared to 568.8 litres in April last year.
A total of 3,531 persons were arrested by the Excise department in April this year as compared to 2,270 persons during the corresponding period last year, a growth of 55.55%.
Besides, as against the detection of 2732 Excise related cases in April last year, 4213 cases have been detected this year-a growth of 54.21%.
As per data shared by the Excise Commissioner’s office, the department has detected 233 cases under the NDPS Act in April this year as compared to 75 cases during the corresponding period last year recording a growth of 210.67 %.
As many as 250 persons have been arrested under the NDPS Act in April this year as against 87 during the same period last year.
The approximate value of seizures under the NDPS Act in April this year is Rs 16 crore as compared to Rs 10 crore in April last year-a growth of 60%.
