Cuttack: Some excise personnel today faced the wrath of liquor mafia during a raid on their house for possessing illicit country liquor and raw materials at Dalua under Khuntuni police station near Athagarh in Cuttack district on Saturday.

The goons also vandalised the excise department vehicle.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Cuttack and Athagarh mobile officials went to the house of one Rabindra Swain, who was accused in a previous excise vehicle vandalism case.

“Our team raided his house and seized illegal liquor and other raw materials from his house. When we tried to pick up the accused, his family members obstructed our team in discharging their duty. They have also heckled our team members and attacked them by ransacking the government vehicle,” said Debasis Patel, Excise superintendent, Cuttack.

As a law and order situation arose, the excise team immediately informed the Khuntuni police and the IIC with a team reached the spot and brought the situation under control after rescuing excise official, Patel said..

“We have filed a complaint at Khuntuni police station in this regard,” he added.

The accused, Rabindra Swain, has been arrested by the excise officials. Further investigation is underway.

Huge cache of illicit liquor and fermented liquor was seized by the raiding team.
