Bhubaneswar: On the 20th consecutive day of the Statewide Enforcement Special Drive, excise officials intensified their crackdown, seizing contraband valued at approximately Rs 1.59 crore.

According to an official press release, 206 cases were registered across the state during the day, resulting in the arrest of 113 persons. Enforcement teams confiscated 11,309 bulk litres (BL) of illicitly distilled liquor along with 437 BL of duty-paid liquor. Additionally, 99,194 litres of fermented wash were destroyed at various locations.

The operation also led to the seizure of 56 litres of duplicate liquor, 250 kilograms of Mohua flowers, and 23 vehicles employed for illegal transportation.

Furthermore, excise officials reported filing 12 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These included the seizure of 195 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) and 220 grams of heroin.

“Through sustained efforts, the drive has significantly disrupted the illegal liquor and narcotics trade across the state,” said an excise official.

The crackdown will continue in the coming days to curb such unlawful activities.
