Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Amarendra Satapathy, a Sub-Inspector of Excise and in-charge of the Tangi Excise Station in Khordha district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.
According to an official press release, Satapathy demanded the monthly bribe in exchange for not initiating any case against the vendor and allowing the smooth operation of his business. When the vendor refused to pay, Satapathy threatened to take action. The vendor subsequently lodged a complaint with the Vigilance authorities.
Acting on the complaint, Odisha Vigilance laid a trap and caught Satapathy red-handed in his office while accepting the bribe. The entire amount was recovered and seized in the presence of witnesses. Chemical tests on Satapathy’s hands confirmed the acceptance and handling of the bribe money.
Following the arrest, searches were conducted at Satapathy’s residences in Patitapaban Nagar, Badagarh, Bhubaneswar, and at his native village Ramchandrapur under Jatni police jurisdiction in Khordha district.
Satapathy has been arrested and will be produced in court. Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station has registered Case No. 11/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and the investigation is ongoing.
