Excise Sleuths Seize Brown Sugar Worth Rs 30 Lakh From Cuttack, Four Arrested

**Cuttack**: In a major haul, the State Excise Intelligence (EI) have busted a drug racket with the arrest of four Jaleswar-based persons from Khapuria area here today.

Brown sugar weighing around 270 grams was seized from an SUV during the raid. The contraband has been estimated at a whopping Rs 30 lakh in the grey market.

The racket was on the radar of EI and Enforcement Bureau (EB) for quite some time. It was engaged in trafficking banned substances including brown sugar, opium and ganja between West Bengal and Odisha.

On the basis of a tip-off, the EI-EB team laid a trap and followed the gang from Jaleswar. The four persons were traveling in a Scorpio from Kharagpur to Bhubaneswar. “We apprehended them after a hot pursuit at Khapuria bridge,” Inspector Amarendra Jena said. Jena led the operation with other members of EI-EB’s Cuttack unit (II).

The accused have been identified as Sk Yasim (42), Sk Nasimuddin (31), Sk Noor Shahadat (34) and Imtiaz Mallick (32). All of them belong to Jaleswar in Balasore district. The four have been booked under relevant Sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
