Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Jagannath Sethy, Executive Engineer Rural Works (Electrical) Division, Berhampur on charges of possessing disproportionate assets (DA) to his known sources of income.
The Vigilance during house searches have unearthed movable and immovable assets to the tune of Rs 7.83 crore in the name of Sethy and his family members which is 360 per cent of his known sources of income, the anti-corruption agency has said in an official press release.
Accused Sethy was arrested by the Vigilance and forwarded to court for possession of disproportionate assets which he could not account for satisfactorily.
In this connection, the Vigilance has registered a case against Sethy along with his spouse and elder son under sections 13/2 read with 13(1)(b)/12 of PC Act, 1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Five Vigilance teams conducted simultaneous searches at five places on March 9.
The anti-corruption agency has unearthed one five-storeyed building at Gajapati Nagar, 11th Lane Extension, Berhampur worth about Rs 1.68 crore; one four-storeyed building at AIIMS Nagar, 3rd Lane Bhubaneswar worth about Rs 1.58 Crore; one four-storeyed building at Gajapati Nagar, 8th Lane, Berhampur worth about Rs 90 lakhs; single-storeyed building at village Putabagada, Chatrapur worth around Rs 9.53 lakhs; 17 plots in prime areas of Bhubaneswar, Jatni and Berhampur. The Registered Sale Deed (RSD) value comes to approx Rs 2.18 crore; bank deposits in name of Sethy and his family members worth over Rs 85 lakhs; 2 four-wheelers (Mahindra XUV & Hyundai Creta) worth Rs 25 lakhs; Rs 19, 88,790 in cash; 4 two-wheelers worth Rs 3, 50,989 lakhs; and gold jewellery and household articles belonging to Sethy and his family members, the press release said.
Further investigation in the matter is underway, the release added.
