Exit Poll Trends: BJP Losing Most States!

**Bhubaneswar:** With the general elections a few months ahead, the BJP seems to lose its ground in most of the States as per the recent election trends.

At a time the BJP had proved its prowess in most of the States across nation, including Tripura, where it toppled the 25 years of uninterrupted rule of the CPI(M)-led Left Front and the 20-year reign of Manik Sarkar in the 2018 Assembly Elections.

But within the end of the year, the power seems drifting away from the saffron party. The recent by-elections in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh show how BJP has almost lost its strength in the States.

The Congress-JD(S) alliance in the Karnataka bypolls, three Lok Sabha seats and two Assembly constituencies while the BJP had to confine to only one Lok Sabha seat. In Rajasthan bypolls, the Congress managed to win back Alwar and Ajmer Lok Sabha seats by good margins. Likewise, in Bihar the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) retained Jehanabad seat as well as the Araria Lok Sabha seat.

The major jolt to the BJP was when it lost its fortress Gorakhpur and Phulpur parliamentary seats to the Samajwadi Party, backed by the Bahujan Samaj Party. The seats had been vacated last year by Yogi Adityanath and Keshav Prasad Maurya after they became Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively.

Besides, the exit poll predictions on the assembly elections held in Madhya Pradesh (MP), Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram show how the BJP is losing its magic in the States.

Despite the trend, the picture will be more clear after the results are out on Tuesday (December 11) next week. Poll pundits are of the view that the results of the above States are obviously going to have its influence and repercussions on the general elections 2019.
