Explosion In Odisha School Premises Gravely Injures 2 Students

Ganjam: Two students of an upper primary school have sustained serious injuries following an explosion in their school premises today morning and their condition is stated to be critical.   

The blast took place inside the government school building at Magura village under Aska Police Station (PS) limits in the southern Odisha district here. Raja Naik of Class 7 and Chandan Swain of Class 8 were grievously injured in the explosion. 

Reportedly, the explosion took place inside a toilet of the school building during the mid-day meal (MDM) hour. Before having their MDM, the two victims had gone to the toilet to freshen up where they noticed a queer object that suddenly blew off. Later it was discovered that the object was an explosive used in stone quarry for mining purposes.

Soon after the mishap, the two students were rushed to the Aska Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition. Later on, they were shifted to Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated. One of Naik’s finger on his left hand has been completely damaged, said sources.

Meanwhile, cops are further probing into the matter.

Later in the day, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash ordered the District Education Officer to probe and submit report within a week. He also said that necessary measures will be taken to stop such incidents.
