Champua (Keonjhar): In a shocking incident, bodies of a man and a woman were found hanging from a mango tree at Matihana Sahi of Kodagadia under Champua police limits in Keonjhar district today.
The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Munda (40) and Panmati Munda (38) of Matihana Sahi, according to reports.
On being informed, Champua police have seized the bodies and sent those for post-mortem, apart from recording statements of their family members as part of the investigation into the matter.
While the reason behind them taking the extreme step is not clear, despite both being married to different persons had allegedly developed an extramarital relationship.
According to the statements of deceased Ranjit Munda’s mother Sukurmuni and wife Rambha Munda, the former had fallen in love with Panmati who was a distant relative and wanted to marry her.
Ranjit used to repeatedly threaten to commit suicide if he was not allowed to marry Panmati following which they had consented.
Ranjit had brought Panmati to his home since last week and they were staying as husband and wife with all other family members staying together.
Both Panmati and Ranjit used to work as coolies for a tractor on daily wages.
On Friday evening, both had left the house to fetch their wages and today morning they were found hanging from the tree, they have stated.
Both Ranjit and Panmati have three children each from their previous marriages.
