Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday has forecast extreme heat wave conditions in several districts of Odisha and issued a heat wave warning for eight districts for the next two days.
The state is reeling under sweltering heat under the influence of dry westerly/northwesterly winds and high solar isolation. The MeT has issued a 45°C alert in some Odisha districts.
According to the IMD, heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh, and Bolangir districts. A heat wave warning has been issued for these districts.
Similarly, a yellow warning for heat wave conditions has been issued for a few places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, and Balangir districts for May 18.
According to the IMD, there will be no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during the next five days over the districts of Odisha. Maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to be 42°C or more at a few places in Odisha like Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Angul, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, and Kalahandi districts. Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is very likely to prevail.
The IMD issued a warning for lightning, thunder, and stormy winds in 16 districts on May 18 and 12 districts on May 19.
People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during the daytime, especially between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm.
