Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday arrested one Subash Chandra Kanwar for allegedly marrying and duping a woman using a fake identity.
According to police, the accused (55), who hails from Bhadrak, had two wives before re-marrying the complainant. As per the complainant, a 52-year-old woman from Khurda came in contact with Subash through a social networking site in 2020.
Subash had identified himself as Manoj Mishra, a police inspector posted in Odisha’s Rourkela. As their relationship became close, he lured the woman promising a good life and proposed to her for marriage.
The woman accepted Subash’s proposal and the duo got married in August 2023. However, after their wedding, Subash alias Manoj started avoiding her and also hesitated to meet her family.
The woman grew suspicious of such behaviour. Later, she complained to the police when she discovered Subash’s true identity and realised that she had been cheated by the imposter.
