Balasore: Nilagiri police in Balasore district have busted a fake currency racket with the seizure of fake currency having face value of Rs 32,700 and the arrest of two persons including a woman.
Police have seized 47 nos. of 100 Rupee notes, 45 nos. of 200 Rupee notes and 38 nos. of 500 Rupee notes having a combined face value of Rs 32,700, according to a press note issued by Balasore police.
Police have also seized two mobile phones from the possession of the accused persons.
The accused have been identified as a 60-year-old man from Santaragadia under Nilagiri police station limits and a 50-year-old woman of Soro police limits.
However, the main accused in this case has been identified and will be apprehended soon, the press note said.
He is using high quality paper and a good printer to print the fake notes and further circulate it in smaller market areas like haats, liquor shops etc., the press note added.
According to the press note, on Tuesday the male accused of Santaragadia had purchased foreign liquor from the complainant by paying Rs 3000 (6 numbers of Rs 500 currency note).
While the complainant was closing his shop and counting the notes he discovered that currency notes were fake. The accused also purchased other things from the market by paying fake currency notes.
During the investigation, Nilagiri police were able to apprehend the person who had tendered the fake notes. On interrogation, he confessed that one lady from Soro and one accused from Jajpur had provided those fake currency notes to him for business purposes.
Based on his statement the lady accused of Soro area was apprehended by the police. Police seized fake currency notes having a combined face value of Rs 32,700 and two mobile phones from their possession.
Steps are being taken to apprehend the main accused from Jajpur, the press note added.
