Balasore: Jaleswar police on Thursday arrested two persons who posing as Transport Department officials near the Laxmannath Toll Plaza and were providing documents in ‘authentic document format’ to vehicles passing through the toll plaza.
While one of the accused was posing as an RTO, the other was posing as MVI.
“Police have apprehended two persons from near the Laxmannath Toll Gate under Jaleswar police limits. A case has been registered under sections 470,490, 420,384 and 34 of the IPC,” informed Balasore SP Sagarika Nath addressing a presser here today.
Nath said while one of the accused belongs to Jaleswar and is 34 years old, the other is 27 years old and belongs to Singhbhum in the neighbouring state of Jharkhand.
“Faking as RTO and MVI officials these persons were providing documents in authentic document format to the vehicles passing through the check post. They were telling the vehicle owners that they would issue documents of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha. We have recovered 11 fake stamps which are looking like almost authentic from their possession. We have also seized receipt books and other similar documents of different check posts and Integrated check posts of Govt of Telangana, Govt of West Bengal, Govt of Andhra Pradesh. We asked them to produce their identity cards which they could not. Accordingly, action is being taken against them,” Nath explained.
She said that the fraudsters were caught in the morning today and a prima facie investigation is underway.
“We had intelligence reports since last month that such incidents are taking place. So, we had planted our sources and the police was put on alert, a trap was also set up the result of which is today’s success,” the SP said.
