Rayagada: In a shocking incident, a man attacked his daughter and her boyfriend with an axe in Adatatakiri village under Kashipur block in Rayagada district.
His daughter’s boyfriend identified as Mangulu Majhi died on the spot while his daughter Lalita Majhi is critically injured and battling for life.
According to sources, Lalita, who had eloped with Mangulu last month, returned to her village a week ago and was staying with her family. On Tuesday evening, her father, Bijay Majhi, asked Mangulu to come and take Lalita with him. However, in a shocking turn of events, Bijay allegedly attacked the couple with an axe when they were leaving on a bike, resulting in Mangulu’s instant death and leaving Lalita severely injured.
The accused, Bijay Majhi, fled the scene after committing the crime.
On a tip-off, a team from Kashipur police station left for the village for further investigation and arrested the accused Bijay Majhi.
Lalita has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.
