Balasore: A family at the Dahisada area under Soro police limits in Balasore district was reportedly robbed of gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 50 lakhs by five miscreants.
According to sources, five miscreants broke into the house of Jnanendra Upadhyay in the village through the back door last night. They tied up Jnanendra, his mother, and his sister, and threatened them with sharp weapons, apart from assaulting them.
The thieves made off with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 50 lakh, as well as two mobile phones. Residents rescued the family members in the morning and informed the Soro police, who arrived two hours after being informed and began an investigation into the incident.
The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with locals criticising the police for their inaction. The area has been witnessing a surge in thefts and robberies, and the residents are demanding action against the culprits.
