Bolangir: After five hours of high drama three members of a family held captive by an armed youth were rescued by police and fire personnel after a filmi-style rescue operation.
The accused identified as one Bikram Panda of Talpali Para has been captured by the police.
Bikram, who was armed had fired two to three rounds at the police before he was captured by the latter, reports said.
The high drama by Bikram was over an alleged relationship issue, reports added.
Bikram had entered the house of one Dibyalochan Hota at Shantipada in Bolangir and had taken him, his wife, and son at gunpoint.
As per Hota, he had just completed his morning prayers when the youth had reached his house. Hota thought he was a repairman and allowed him into the house.
However, the youth pulled out a country-made gun from his bag and took Hota at gunpoint, and enquired about the latter’s niece. When Hota said that she doesn’t live here, he directed him to call her.
The youth even took Hota’s wife and son at gunpoint and threatened to kill them if they do not follow his instructions. However, seizing an opportunity, Hota and his family members entered a room and locked the door from inside.
On getting information, SDPO Bolangir rushed to the spot with the police team and fire services personnel. Bikram’s family and friends reached the spot and tried to pacify him.
Later, Bolangir SDPO and the team entered the house from a window on the first floor of the house. The family members were rescued successfully through the window with the help of fire personnel.
