Bhubaneswar: Senior officials of the Health Department today surveyed the Puri district extensively to make an assessment of health and sanitation parameters post-Fani.
The team led by Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda toured Krushnaprasad and Satyabadi blocks along with Asha workers and took stock of the medicine disbursement and sanitation activities across household and localities.
Meherda directed local officials to prioritise supply of clean drinking water to all the households in the district.
To monitor the progress of activities on the ground Director, National Health Mission, Shalini Pandit joined the Department Secretary during the tour of Krushnaprasad block. The senior officials distributed halogen tablets and ORS sachets to the cyclone affected people during the visit.
Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Yamini Sarangi conducted an assessment of the situation in Satyabadi block. She was accompanied by senior officials of the Department who discussed on the issues related to healthcare in the aftermath of the monstrous cyclone.
The health department teams focussed on distribution of medicines, maternity care, clean drinking water and averting potential health crisis. Besides, a spot survey on awareness campaigns was also conducted.
As per reports, 29 lakh ORS packets and 24 lakh halogen tablets have been supplied for distribution in Puri district so far. Total 1,032 healthcare centres have been damaged in the cyclone. Out of these units, the State Government is working on war-footing to reconstruct at least 300 centres.
The State Government opened 703 medical relief centres which provided immediate care to more than 10,000 persons who were injured in the cyclone.
Total 184 medical teams have been deployed in Puri and Khurda district with 20 doctors and 200 para-medical staff in the aftermath of cyclone Fani.
