15 May 2019

Bhubaneswar: Spotted deer which went missing from Balukhand sanctuary of Puri after cyclone Fani, have been spotted. According to forest department officials, the deer were spotted on Tuesday by the surveilance cameras set up in the woods.

Cameras traps setup near the Balukhand range office captured the movement of large number of deer in the area. The forest officials have planned to setup more cameras in the sanctuary.

Amidst speculations that the deer population in the sanctuary would have been adversely affected in the cyclone, the State government had decided to use drones to locate the missing spotted deer.

As per reports, around 4,000 spotted deer had gone missing from Balukhand-Konark sanctuary in Puri district during severe cyclone Fani which left a trail of devastation in coastal areas of the Odisha.
