Puri: The long wait for lakhs of devotees come to an end as the century-old Jagannath Temple got its power supply back after a hiatus of 13 days.
The 12th-century shrine was running without power since May 3 when cyclone Fani made a landfall at Puri. The monstrous cyclone devastated the entire town and left the energy infrastructure in doldrums.
It took humongous effort of thousands of eletricians and workers to rebuild the system which supplies power to the Jagannath Temple. Since May 3, the temple campus was operating with the alternate power sources like diesel generators.
Energy Department Secretary, Hemant Sharma, senior officials of the district administration and Central Electricity Supply Utility were present on the occasion when the Jagnnath Temple premises was illuminated with the fresh supply of power.
