Bhubaneswar: A farmer reportedly died of a cardiac arrest under Chikana Gram Panchayat in Jajpur district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Manibhadra Mohanty.
According to reports, Manibhadra had taken several loans from different sources to cultivate his land. However, the recent heavy rainfall destroyed his entire crop.
Early this morning, Manibhadra went to inspect his 3-acre field and was devastated to see the damage to his paddy crops. Overcome with stress and worry about his debts, he reportedly collapsed due to the immense mental pressure, according to family members.
The family rushed Manibhadra to the Binjharpur Community Health Center (CHC), but the doctor declared him dead after some time.
The family is now mourning his loss and has demanded compensation from the government.
“My father went to the field and saw that the entire crop was ruined. When he saw the damage, he collapsed because he had taken a lot of loans from cooperative societies and others. After we took him to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead. We don’t know how we will survive now, and we are asking the government to help us, or else we will also face the same fate,” said a family member.
