Ganjam: A 64-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide in Barang village under Bada Madhapur Gram Panchayat in Ganjam district, on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Banamali Penthei. The incident occurred due to crop loss in the recent untimely rains and the debt burden.
According to reports, he returned from his field on Today morning and later went to his house’s bathroom, where he hung himself using a rope.
Banamali’s family alleged that the loss of their 5-acre paddy crop, which was fully damaged, and a debt burden of over Rs 2 lakh led to his death.
The police received a tip-off about the incident, reached the spot, sent the body for post-mortem, and initiated an investigation into the matter.
