Angul: A 55-year-old farmer was killed after being struck by lightning while working in his field in Badapatanasahi village under Budhapanka Panchayat in Angul district’s Banarpal area on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Sadananda Bhutia, a resident of the same village.
According to reports, Sadananda had gone to work in his waterlogged field when a sudden lightning strike hit him, causing him to collapse on the spot.
When he did not return home by evening, worried family members began searching for him. After some time, they found his lifeless body lying in the field.
Upon being alerted, Revenue Inspectors Braja Bandhu Sahu, Kartili Sahu, and Banarpal RI Harihar Sethi visited the site to assess the situation.
Banarpal police also reached the spot, seized the body, and sent it for postmortem.
A case of unnatural death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
