Jaleswar: A farmer was killed and a minor girl was seriously injured in separate incidents of lightning strike following nor’wester (Kal-Baishakhi) at two different villages in Bhograi block of Balasore district on Wednesday.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Bachu Das of Bichitrapur village in Kanthibhaunri panchayat.
According to reports, lightning struck Bachu while he was working in his paddy field.
Similarly, the minor girl from Chapapalasia village was struck by lightning while she along with her family members was going to their field to work.
Both Bachu Das of Bichitrapur village and the minor girl from Chapapalasia village were admitted to the Government Hospital here. However, while doctors at the hospital declared Bachu dead, the seriously injured minor girl is undergoing treatment.
Besides, a woman Meena Gangai of Rasalpur village was critically injured when a tree fell on her under the impact of nor’wester while she was returning home from the field after finishing work.
She has been shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Balasore and is undergoing treatment for her injuries.
