Bhubaneswar: Odisha Minister of Cooperatives, Handlooms, Weaving and Handicrafts, Pradeep Bal Samanta, said that all measures will be taken to compensate all the insured farmers who suffered crop damage in the one-day unseasonal rain.
Insurance assistance will also be provided for post-harvest damage under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Farmers are eligible for insurance assistance if the harvested crop is damaged due to one day of rain within 14 days of harvesting in the field under tied or hay-dried conditions. To avail of the crop insurance money farmers have been advised by the Cooperative Department to inform through the media on the “Krishi Rakshak” portal or the “Krishi Rakshak Helpline Number” 14447 within 72 hours of crop loss.
It is worth mentioning here that for the past few days, there was unseasonal rain in various districts like Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khurda, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Puri, Rayagada etc.
It is feared that the harvest of many farmers was damaged due to this one-day unseasonal rain. More than 15 lakh farmers in all these districts have registered their kharif crops under the crop insurance scheme. In order to get compensation for the loss, the registered farmers have been requested by the cooperative department to inform the “Krishi Rakshak” portal or “Krishi Rakshak Helpline Number” 14447 within 72 hours of the loss.
