Bargarh: Farmers of of the district are panic-stricken as a herd of wild elephants has destroyed crops over several acres of land. According to reports, a herd of around 30 elephants came into Bargarh from Binika forest in Sonepur district crossing Mahanadi river.
On Tuesday, these elephants wreaked havoc in the farms in Bramhan Turun, Bhalupali and Mohana. A large number of farmers have been affected as their saplings were destroyed. The forest department officials rushed to these villages and took stock of the situation.
Efforts are being made to drive away the pachyderms from human habitats into the jungle, reports added. Meanwhile, the poor farmers are spending sleepless nights amid elephant scare.
