Bhubaneswar: This year more number of farmers have registered with the State Government to participate in the paddy procurement process. During the paddy procurement season for the year 2019-20, 12.35 lakh farmers of Odisha had registered. This time for the year 2020-21, 14.97 lakh farmers have registered with the State Government to sell Kharif crop, said Biswajit Das, Managing Director, Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. (OSCSCL).
“The rise of more than 24 per cent in registration indicates that our farmers have shown confidence in the paddy procurement process. This has been streamlined with the introduction of ‘tokens’, and will be further simplified this year,” Dash added. The collection / purchase of paddy will start from November 1 and continue till March 31, 2021.
From May 1 to June 30, the paddy procurement for Rabi crops will be carried out, he said. The State Government will use token system which was introduced last year. Steps have been taken to improve the system further and address issues which came into the fore during paddy procurement last year.
“Advance tokens will be issued to farmers, around seven days ahead of the procurement process. Mobile phone numbers of farmers have been collected during registration. Messages will be sent to them regarding details about the dates on which paddy will be procured. Besides, proper information will be displayed on notice boards at the centres (Paddy Procurement Centres – PPCs) to assist farmers,” said Das.
There is no limit for procurement of paddy. It will depend on the situation and the Minister will take a call on this, if the target needs increased. Farmers facing problems in receiving the tokens can seek help from the toll free number 1967, the OSCSCL MD added.
