Bhubaneswar: A couple died as the car they were travelling in hit a truck parked on the roadside near Sharma Petrol Pump at Panikoili Square in Jajpur district on Tuesday late night.
The deceased have been identified as Binod Jena and his wife Sumatra Jena.
According to sources, Binod and his wife among five were travelling to Balasore from Cuttack when the mishap took place.
The mishap occurred due to careless driving by the car driver who hit the truck from the rear with full force, said sources.
On a tip-off, police rushed to the spot and sent all the car passengers to a nearby hospital. However, Binod and wife were declared dead on arrival.
Three sustained injuries in the mishap and the condition of the two injured are stated to be critical. As their condition worsened, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Police meanwhile seized the car and began a probe into it.
