**Paradip:** There was a pall of gloom in Paradip as four bodies of a single family was fished out from Mahanadi river near Shani temple in Jagannathpur under Kujang block on Thursday afternoon. The deceased include 35-yr-old widow Mamina Sethy, her two daughters and a son in the age group of one to 8 yrs.
The police has detained Mamina’s father Akhay Sethy of Kothia Sahi suspecting some foul play in the incident as locals allege that he had come and fetched all four of them to his house the previous evening.
Notably, her husband Anant Sethy was a contraction worker in IFFCO. He died in an accident a month ago. Mamina had received Rs 5 lakh compensation from the company in lieu with her husband’s death.
It is suspected that the father and brother of Mamina must have killed all four of them in the greed of the compensation money and drowned them in the river to make it appear as suicide.
However, Akhay Sethy himself suspects foul play in the deaths. According to him, “After my son-in-law’s death, I used to regularly visit my daughter’s place and she also stayed at my place for some time. On Wednesday evening, I had gone to her place with some snacks. Everything was okay till then. There is definitely some foul play as all the four have died. If it was a case of suicide, then only my daughter would have committed it, but under no circumstances she would kill her children.”
Kujang police have started its investigation and have detained Mamina’s father for interrogation.
Earlier, Mamina’s brother had alleged that all four were murdered for property by her in-laws.
