Koraput: As many as five patients, including three women, allegedly died due to the wrong administration of injections at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput on Tuesday night.
According to reports, patients from various parts of South Odisha, including Koraput, Borigumma, Kalahandi, Semiliguda, and Machhara, were being treated in the ICU and surgical wards of the hospital. Three patients in the ICU and two in the ward died suddenly within a short span of 15 minutes around 11 pm after a nurse administered them injections.
The three patients who died in the ICU are Bhagaban Paraja, Sukru Majhi and Rukuni Pentia. The two patients who died in the ward have been identified as Bati Khara and Phulmati Majhi.
Meanwhile, the families of the deceased patients have alleged that the patients were stable after surgery in the ICU. However, a staff member on night duty administered certain injections twice, and within 15 minutes, three patients in the ICU died. The cause of death for the patients in the ward remains unclear.
While the Town Police sent the bodies for post-mortem and launched an investigation into the matter, hospital authorities have yet to issue any clarification on the death of five patients.
