Balasore: Unable to cope with her husband’s alcoholism and the resulting harassment and abuse, a woman took her own life by hanging herself at Soro Uttareswar under Kaptipada police limits in Balasore district, on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjulata Nayak, wife of Anadi Nayak.
According to sources, Sanjulata had been facing harassment from her husband Anadi, who was a habitual drunkard. Despite her repeated pleas, Anadi did not stop consuming liquor, leading to frequent quarrels between the couple.
On the fateful day, Anadi had gone out to buy liquor despite Sanjulata’s warning. In a fit of rage, Sanjulata consumed poison and then hanged herself from the ceiling. When Anadi returned home, he found the door locked from inside and had to break it open with the help of locals.
Sanjulata was rushed to Soro Hospital, where she was declared dead. Police, meanwhile, reached the hospital and launched an investigation into the incident.
