Balasore: A female constable reportedly committed suicide at a reserve police barrack in Balasore district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased constable has been identified as Jashoda Das, a resident of Mandarpur under Remuna police limits.
As per reports, Jashoda was found hanging in the barrack today. Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the scene and retrieved the body. Her colleagues rushed her to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, where she was declared dead.
According to the deceased’s brother, the reason behind her suicide appears to be related to a love affair with a youth from Sora area, who is reportedly an army personnel. The two were in a long-term relationship.
Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj Prasad said, “A team has been dispatched to the scene. The constable was pronounced dead at the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital. According to her posting status, she had been experiencing mental distress. A personal issue might have led to this extreme step. However, the exact reason behind the suicide remains unclear. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Das’ death.”
