Bhubaneswar: A female elephant died after coming into contact with a live solar-powered electric wire under the Chhendipada forest area in Angul district.
According to the forest department, the elephant was electrocuted while trying to feed on crops near the Dangapal beat under the Chhendipada Range on Monday night.
The incident has raised questions about the safety measures taken by the forest department to prevent such accidents. The department has been installing solar-powered fencing to protect people from elephant attacks, but the electrocution of the elephant has sparked concerns about the effectiveness of these measures.
This is not the first incident of its kind, and the forest department is under pressure to ensure that such accidents do not recur in the future.
