Angul: A middle-aged female elephant was found dead near Saharagoda under the Angul forest range in Odisha on Saturday morning.
As per reports, villagers spotted the carcass of the elephant near the Budbudia forest, close to their habitat, following which they informed the Forest department. Upon being told, forest officials reached the spot and launched a preliminary investigation.
With no visible external injuries on its body, forest officials have ruled out poaching as a possible cause of death. Further investigation is likely needed to determine the exact reason for the elephant’s demise.
It is learnt that a medical team and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) are en route to the scene to conduct a thorough examination to ascertain the reason behind the pachyderm’s death and the circumstances surrounding it.
